aida tanglao
aida tanglao THIS IS my tribute to our late beloved President Cory. May these words also serve as my contribution to the compilation of our historiography and oral history. President Aquino was a known haiku poet and a painter. Perhaps these then hidden talents of hers helped in her success to reincarnate democracy and freedom not only for the Philippines but for the world.

Three or four years ago, inspired by our Kapampangan poets, I started making simple children's haiku in our language of birth. Reading works of the three Japanese famous haiku poets of the ancient times helped me invent haiku in the Kapampangan language.

Like President Cory, another Kapampangan president-poet, Diosdado P. Macapagal, was a lover of nature. It is perhaps the artistic minds of these two Philippine leaders that enabled them to successfully always stick to the true, the good, and the beautiful.

One of the important things I learned from the haiku inventors. May these verses and haikus in our language and in the English language make us see the beauty of truth and love of country.
