Kaya oyta, pulayan kaming memanuli---tiknang mi pa ing pamamyalung tambaks, maro, ampong tsaynis garter. Reng pisan kung babayi, mengagunut la kang dara kung Baby. Ikaming lalaki, mengasaplid kami kareng istepin ng ingkung ku.

Disan mi lang makasiklod di apu, paka belu la pa at makatanud la keng istatwa ng Mama Mary---makabalut ya pang plastic angang pingas-pingas ne itang metung ng bitis. Mamau la reng sampaguita ampo ilang-ilang a melangi, misasamut keng bau ning asuk ning kandilang kule yellow.

Mamau kaming pawas reng kapatad ampong pisan ku. Ing bolang a Yen-Yen (pisan ku), gigigit yang gigigit. Kaba kasing makapyak lang mangadi ring dara ampong apu ku, labul-labulan ne ing kandila kareng arap da reng mangadi. Oyta, loko, mekandut ya! "Bapu Marya, mipmu ka keng grasya" Alti ka, patugutan mu yan!" anang apu ku, sabe neng kindut ing pisan ku kabang makapyak yang tuluy-tuluy mangadi.

Ikami tuluy ing ginigit, linawe langan sabe-sabe binalikid mangarok mata kekami reng mangatwa. Atatandanan ku la pin angga ngeni, lupa lang ngan "horror" uling paka-brown la malan ampo pakabelu mitatakpan kapit na ning karelang lupa.

Balak mi sang lumwal pasibayu para magtambubung, oneng sebat na kaming ingkung ku at mangan na kami kanu---nung ali, e kami maka-panalbe Combat ampo Rat Patrol.

Sinduk ng apu ku ing sabo maligosu, atin kamuti ampo binudbud tinapa. Ing panayan mi ing adobung babi, oneng kulang pa kanu pangalangi. Milup ke pa kanung sabo. Muna na ke kanu a da reng dara ku at tuluy de ing binggo---"Under O... sipsipan lang baligtaran!"

Ing ingkung ku kanita ing mapamulyo. Angang atin kaming T.V. (Zenith) keng keng lual bale manalbe, makasilip keng awang maka-screen (Combat ya kanita ing palage). Reng tineydyer kanita makipanalbe la, panyagapan da la reng anak mangasiglang manalbe. "Kong, lipat ye pa pu keng basketbol. YCO-Crispa ing laban," ada. Magbusit ke kanita uling buri mi Combat. Potang masyadu na kaming masigla, paspas nong ingkung ku reng tsinelas na keng sreen. Sapak ke kanitang alikabuk lupa!

Atin nang mamaung pawas, paksi---malanam ke ngan bau. Atin munaman mangunyud!

Potang pauli na atin nang mangaga. Mewala la istepin. Ing bolang a Ronald "kamantigi" ing mapanyalikut istepin.

O sige, abe, ne. Itutuloy--

Although it took me a while to read your article "Alas Sais na, Maglakad ne ing Birhen" because it is written in Capampangan, I truly and tremendously enjoyed reading it. For me to comprehend it even more, I read it several times.

Do you know the reason for my loving your article? Because I relate with what you grew up with. I was trying to figure out what those games were, the tambaks, maro, and tsaynis garter. Perhaps we just called them differently in my hometown of Bacolor.

We had the landoy (or hide and seek), the tumbang preso, and the sulutan garter in the sand (perhaps the equivalent of your tsaynis garter). We had also the prayers with our very old Nazareno. Then, the old RCA TV which on Tawag ng Tanghalan Championship, all the neigbors came to watch.

You know what? I don't usually forward email messages, but because I loved your article so much, I forwarded it to Capampangan friends and sisters from New Jersey and Greenhills.

I especially like those aunties with belo, the lolo throwing tsinelas at the tv screen, the Haily Mary's with apo pinching the girls, then continue praying. That is hilarious! I am telling you.

As I was reading your article, I was laughing uncontrollably in the office. I work at the New York U. here in New York. I have to start working now. Anyway, kudos to your writing. You are one of the best writers! My highest regards...

Hi, Pepot! Still remember me, it's me Atching Winnie Caniones-Llanes. I was so touched with the article about Auntie Lita.. i was really in tears as I read your story. Buti ka pa, you were all with Auntie before she passed away...unlike me, I was not even there beside my Dad (your Dad's younger brother) when he passed away. It was really very traumatic on our part coz we all know that Dad is still strong and healthy...but then... I really missed him a lot....
