
Joan Ariete was born and bred in Lubao, Pampanga. She earned a bachelor's degree in Journalism from the University of the Philippines-Diliman in 2004. She worked as a junior writer for Summit Publishing's YES! Magazine from 2005-2006. She is currently collaborating with a friend on a photo-documentary featuring the Burmese community of New York. She lives in New York City.
